Art Tips and Art Techniques How to seal a canvas for painting art

Today I’m going to give you another little painting tip, just to help make things a little bit easier when you’re creating your artwork. The product I’m going to show you today is the Atelier Binder Medium, and I am going to use it on my star wars panel art. This is now an extremely versatile product. It’s got a lot of different uses in the art world. But today, what I’m going to do is show you how we’re going to seal a canvas with it. Now, when we apply this to the canvas, it’s going to help the adhesion of your paints. It’s also going to help prevent moisture loss through the Star Wars canvas itself. So we’ll go ahead and show you how to apply it, and we can have a little chat while we’re applying the medium for you. Now, applying this product is easy as 1, 2, 3. All we do is just pour some onto our canvas, and with a nice, clean, brush, we’re just gonna paint it straight on. Now, you can dilute this if you like, and down to 1-part binder medium and 1-part water if you want a more fluid medium going on your canvas. You can do your whole canvas, or you can do part of your canvas; it depends on what artwork you’re working on. But that’s all there is to applying your binding medium. Very, very straightforward. And that just supplies you with that coat across your canvas to help seal that canvas. So that’s it; that’s all there is to it. You just let that product dry. Well, how easy was that to apply? Now we’ve applied the Binder Medium for a couple of different reasons. Firstly to seal that canvas. When you purchase a pre-product star wars canvas art, a lot of them come out of the factories with waxes and dirts and different things on them which you’re not aware of. And they cause real problems with the adhesion of all your paints and Mediums. The Binder Medium, coated across, solves all those problems. Goes right across all those bad infections that might be on the canvas, and all your paints and Mediums will adhere very strongly and as they’re meant to and as they’re made for.   So that’s one very good reason to use your binder medium. It also gives you a bit of a smoother surface to paint on, so if that’s what you’re looking for,. If you want a bit more tooth on your surface, you can still use Gesso if you like. The other thing we do by putting the binder medium on is to help prevent moisture loss when you’re using your paints. Now when you’re using your paints, your paints will dry from the back of the canvas as well as the front, and to create a bit more extra open-time with that paint and more workability, the Binder Medium helps prevent that drying from the rear as much. So it slows down the drying process. So that’s another reason why we’ve put this medium on our canvas. So, look, I hope that’s just helped you understand how to use a binding medium and the reasons why we use it. It’s a wonderful product. So, until then, happy painting. .Tagged , ,
